Gait scanning is a method of investigating how a person walks. Each step takes .20 of a second to complete. While the podiatrist is trained in how to observe people walking, given the complexity of human movement and speed it can be possible to “miss” moments which may be important in the assessment and treatment.
The gait scan is a “pressure mat” set to the individuals weight and height, the client simply walks across the mat, capturing each foot print, the client then stands on the mat for a few seconds- The computer software then captures this and converts this into a picture- the picture shows in various colours the amount of pressure exerted on the foot with each step.
